7 DAYS - Itinerary 1

Northern Sailing route

7 DAYS Sailing route

A seven-day northern sailing route is filled with amazing sights and adventures, here's a peek at some of the things you can do:

On the way out of Back Creek, take a spin up to Spa Creek to see the bustling port of Annapolis, the US Naval Academy and the excitement of Maryand's capital. Hopefully you've been able to dine at some of the best seafood restaurants in the area and took a stroll down Ego Alley. You'll then sail up past the Chesapeake Bay Bridge into Rock Hall. This little fishing town is a major sailing destination for tourists and local alike. There are many dining options and overnight slips or mooring balls available. Well protected creeks also provide nice anchorages as well.

DAY 1

Head due West and following the main shipping channels into the Baltimore Harbor. Be sure to take in the sights and history of Fort McHenry as you arrive. This city provides a ton of history with modern amenities. Just steps from the dock, at the Inner Harbor, you will find cruise ships, military ships, world class restaurants, the National Aquarium and more. For the sports fans, take in a Baltimore Orioles baseball game at Camden Yards. You can venture to the cobblestone streets of Canton or Fells Point for a more casual night on the town.

DAY 2

Head East past the shipping ports of Baltimore and straight into the Chester River. You will find most of the river is covered with farmland and estates on this scenic route. As you get to the narrowest part of the river, you’ll get to historic Chestertown. You will feel like you have gone back in time as there are many places to anchor out and enjoy the Bay as it was back in the days of John Smith. Enjoy the quiet town with a picnic in one of the many parks or grab a bite at one of their farm to table restaurants.

DAY 3

Sail back south past the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and into Mill Creek and Whitehall Bay near the Severn river. Once inside Mill Creek (after careful navigation) stop in at the famous Cantler's restaurant for the best steam crabs in the area.

DAY 4

We suggest heading straight out to the Eastern Shore for a stay at St Michaels. Known as “the town that fooled the British”, St. Michaels has a lot of history and attractions to take in including the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. This very walkable town hosts several waterfront dining options from casual to upscale.

DAY 5

This is a great day for a peaceful sail up the Wye River on the Eastern Shore. Keep your eyes on the sky for bald eagle or two, as much of the land along the river is protected. This a great opportunity to paddleboard or kayak while exploring.

DAY 6

This marks the end of our journey and it is time to head back to Annapolis. However, the voyage will be anything but boring! The Chesapeake Bay is home to famous lighthouses, countless regattas and is a bustling waterway at anytime during the summer.

DAY 7

7 DAYS - Itinerary 2

SOUTHERN SAILING ROUTE

7 DAYS Sailing route

A seven-day Annapolis sailing route is filled with amazing sights and adventures, here's a peek at some of the things you can do:

Depart Annapolis and head towards Herrington Harbour North (or her sister marina Herrington Harbour South). Both are located on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay and offer a resort marina experience including overnight sips, restaurants, bars, pools and more.
On the way south, you’ll pass the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, the only active screw-pile (meaning the pilings are screwed into the sandy bottom) lighthouse left in the Bay

DAY 1

Make your way across the Bay to the Eastern Shore and explore the beautiful town of Oxford located on the Tred Avon river. Although small and quiet, Oxford is incredibly welcoming to visitors and very walkable. Step back in time as you explore the streets lined with antique shops, restaurants, and ice cream shops. Yachting magazine voted Oxford the “world's best waterfront town” in the first of its annual contests.

DAY 2

We would suggest heading 13 miles down the Choptank River to Cambridge, MD. As one of Maryland's oldest towns, Cambridge is full of history at every turn. You can explore the museums, gardens and parks, or take in the sights of Main Street.

DAY 3

Enjoy a day of southern sailing as you head towards the Western Shore of the Chesapeake. This lazy sail down the Patuxent River through St. Leonard Creek will prove to be a great nature stop with plenty of exotic visitors and history to explore.

DAY 4

Solomon’s Island will be our southernmost destination on this trip. This beautiful town used to be the home to a major seafood packing house and the fishing village vibe still exists today. With plenty of waterfront dining options and markets featuring the catch of the day right from the waters you just sailed, it does not get better. Located across from a military base you may get lucky enough to see a military exercise or two take place.
